Early 20th-century oak barrister bookcase, also known as a stacking or lawyer’s bookcase. Designed for flexibility and growth, this style allowed lawyers and scholars to expand their library storage by adding individual stackable sections as needed.
This example includes the base and two stackable upper units, each fitted with glass-front doors. The piece is in overall good condition for its age; however, the lower glass door is missing the left-hand hinge connection, meaning it should be opened and closed with care.
Despite this minor issue, the bookcase remains structurally sound and highly functional, offering classic antique character and practical storage in a slightly more compact form.
